First Trip to the Dentist

Ava had her very first dentist appointment last week and loved it.  I've never been a fan of the dentist so it was really important to me to make this as fun of an experience as possible and it seems we succeeded in just that.  For the past month we have talked with Ava about pearly white teeth and how important it is to take care of them everyday.  She loves brushing and flossing all by herself.

The dentist's office was really cute and all of the staff was so nice.  When we walked on Ava had her own door for "kids only" and there was a large play room to keep her entertained while we waited our turn.

    
Miss Jessica showed us around the office and then introduced Ava to all of the special tools they used.  She showed her the tickle toothbrush she would use to clean her teeth and the let her feel it.  Then she showed her Mr. Thirsty (the water suction) and how it worked.  Ava really liked this part and kept telling her Mr. Thirsty was still thirsty.

After spraying mommy with the water gun it was time for a cleaning.  Ava laid back, put her sunglasses on opened wide and let Miss Jessica clean her teeth.  She was pretty impressed with how well Ava did for the exam.  

Now it was time to meet Dr. Meckler.  Ava thought his glasses were silly looking.  Dr. Meckler was very happy to hear she enjoyed brushing and flossing and said her teeth were looking. 

As we left the office Ava got to pick out a sticker and a prize from the prize basket.  She decided she wanted a plastic grasshopper.  She also got to enter her name into a drawing for having no cavities and because she was a new patient they let her choose between a gift certificate for a pizza or a free game of Putt Putt and Ava chose the golf (she is her daddy's daughter).  Ava talks about the dentist almost everyday and is already excited about the next trip.
