Potty Training 101

For months now we have been preparing Ava to use the potty.  At 18 months we bought a potty and started having her sit on it before baths or bedtime.  For a month or two she was very interested.  We would give her a sticker to put on a chart every time she tried.  When she lost interest in the stickers we tried M&M's.  That worked for another month or so.  Then life got in the way.

This month we decided we were going to make the leap, throw out all of the diapers and only use the potty.  We bought her big girl panties with Disney princesses and Bubble Guppies (her favorite TV show) on them and told her what a big girl she would be wearing them.  She was so excited!  Since Chris had 2 weeks off,  there was no better time.  Ava surprised us with how eager she was to learn.  I think she had been ready for a while.

We rewarded her with pennies every time she went on the potty.  She loves getting her pennies and putting them in her owl bank.   In just a few days she was potty trained and no accidents at night.  We are so proud of her!!!  And it's so nice to only have to change diapers for one child.
