I didn't realize when we first moved here how cool it would be to live where the Blue Angels practiced or how often we would get to see the Blue Angels practice. While my parents were visiting we went to see the Lighthouse and got our own private show from the beach. It was amazing to watch them fly right over us and change positions in a blink of an eye.
The next day was there big Homecoming show and last show of the year. We met Chris on base at lunch time and walked down to the flight line just in time to see the Blue Angels fly.
The Blue Angels team was founded in 1946, making it the second oldest formal flying aerobatic team (under the same name) in the world, after the French Patrouille de France formed in 1931. The Blue Angel's six demonstration pilots fly the F/A-18 Hornets, typically in more than 70 shows at 34 locations throughout the US each year, where they still employ the same practices and techniques used in their aerial displays in 1946.
After the Air Show we walked over to the Naval Air Museum before headed back home. The kids really enjoyed being able to touch the planes and even get into some of them.
As the kids were playing in this B-57 an older gentleman and his granddaughter walked up, he was telling her all about when he used to fly this plane. It was really interesting getting to listen to his story and the things he did for our country during his time in the military. Kind of puts things into perspective for you.
